Artwork

Many works are owned by the art fund of St. Petersburg’s State Academic Institute of Ilya Repin and by the fund of the State Academic Artistic Lyceum of Ioganson. Also works are held in private collections in USA, China, Egypt, Israel, Greece, Germany, Finland, Spain, Peru, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan.

Ilya’s art is pervaded by the sense of a game characteristic of the postmodernism era. He clothes the unconscious sense of the idea into a certain image, a form that goes beyond the framework of classical art. The image emerges from the two-dimensional space of the canvas entering discourse with the viewer, involving the latter it in the process of creating an ideological interpretation of the work. The author gives him the opportunity to choose the ways of reading the semantic codes laid down in the picture, changing the role in this game, from the recipient of art, to the creator of his own world, even within the framework of one work.

"For me, the main point in art is to involve the viewer in my game, and not just to reflect into self-knowledge. In my artworks I play with the viewer "hide and seek", for me there is nothing more important than the interactive participation of the viewer in the "pre-creation" of the visible image. This helps me to develop a system of coordinates and associations, which are a multi-faceted key to understanding the deep meaning of my works. In the artwork one wants to be the discoverer, stepping on the white snow."
